ClearStep clear braces to straighten crooked or gappy teeth

Clear positioner being placed in mouthClearStep can help you achieve a beautiful smile without metal braces.  The ClearStep programme uses a number of different invisible methods in conjunction with clear positioners. Clear positioners are excellent at straightening out overlapping, crooked or gappy teeth, but they can’t solve every problem on their own. So the ClearStep programme uses a full range of invisible orthodontics. The important thing to remember is that all steps in the programme are invisible!

Clear positioners are the main method of treatment and these are made from transparent medical grade plastic that is wafer thin. A ClearStep programme will consist of a serious of clear positioners that gradually, and gently, move your teeth from their present to your desired position.

The programme will require you to wear each positioner for approximately two weeks. Importantly the clear positioners are very comfortable and don’t impact on your speech.  In addition you are able to remove them for short periods, so you can take them out for an important business meeting or a hot date!

Starting the ClearStep process

  1. Arrange an initial consultation where we will answer your questions and have a look at your teeth.
  2. If you wish to proceed we will take an impression, some photographs and x-rays of your teeth, so that a diagnosis can be carried out.
  3. At your next appointment we will discuss your treatment options with you.
  4. If you’re happy to proceed, we have your tailored ClearStep programme manufactured.

Your treatment is phased, so you will need to return regularly for reviews and be issued with the next appropriate set of clear positioners.

Understanding the ClearStep programme

Clear positioners are manufactured for your teeth specifically. Positioners are not supposed to fit your teeth perfectly – if they did, they wouldn’t be able to move your teeth! As a result they will feel very tight for the first day or two, until your teeth begin to move. Then after a few days the positioners will become looser and easier to take out and put back in, which means they’re working nicely!

We supply the clear positioners in stages. Each stage consists of 8 steps on coded models of your teeth. The positioners must be worn in sequence, with each positioner worn for approximately 2 weeks, or once they have become loose. Each positioner will provide gradual movement, bringing your teeth closer to that perfect smile!

The positioners must be removed for eating and when drinking hot or fizzy drinks. Ideally you should clean your teeth before replacing the positioner. In order to maintain oral hygiene you must clean your positioners with luke warm water and a soft bristle toothbrush every night. You shouldn't use toothpaste as this may scratch and subsequently stain the positioner.
