What are leg Thread Veins?

Venous Reflux is a medical condition affecting the circulation of blood in the lower body. The tiny valves that normally force blood back up towards the heart no longer function correctly, causing blood to pool up in the legs, and the veins of the legs become distended.

Thread Veins on the legs are the mildest manifestation of Venous Reflux. They are tiny blood vessels just under the skin surface that frequently resemble spider webs or tree branches. They are generally red, blue or purple and are clearly visible, usually on the thighs and the lower legs.

Thread Veins can be diagnosed merely by sight and tend to take on one of three characteristic patterns; a sunburst or spider-web pattern radiating outward from a central point, a tree-branch pattern, or a matting pattern that may be nothing more than a set of thin lines. Thread Veins if left untreated can progress to Varicose Veins in later life.

Thread Veins in women are typically due to pregnancy, hormonal changes, age, heredity, obesity and extended periods of standing. The good news is that Thread Vein removal is easy with Microsclerotherapy treatments.

How does Microsclerotherapy work?

We use a prescription medication called Sclerovein solution it has been shown to be the most effective and the most comfortable solution. It is introduced superficially into the veins, causing the lining of the vein to become sticky. Compression is then applied by wearing a compression stocking in order to close the vein. The vein heals closed and fades away.

Compression stockings must be worn following treatment and are an integral part of the success of the treatment. They should be worn day and night for at least 72 hours after which you must wear them for another 7 days longer, but may take them off at night.

Microsclerotherapy is more effective than Laser or IPL.

Microsclerotherapy is 80% effective over a series of 4-6 treatments this is much more effective than Laser and it is much safer than IPL. IPL relies on heating the vein to stop it from working, yet it also heats the skin at the same time and can cause pigment or blistering.

Microsclerotherapy vs IPL

  • More effective
  • More comfortable
  • More affordable

Please bring a suspender belt to your appointments. The stockings are thick and tight so this treatment is more comfortable during the cooler months of winter and autumn.
