Looking great – whatever your age

How to look and feel fabulous wherever you are in life - 20s, 30s, & 40s. Which aesthetic treatments to have when & why great skincare is essential. 1

We all know that our skin changes as we get older. After a certain age, that fresh faced look we took for granted in our teens is something we’d love to recapture. The good news is that proper skincare and tailoring treatments to your age or needs (not everyone of a certain age will need the same thing) you can help address the signs of ageing. Here’s my decade-by-decade guide on how to look, and feel, fabulous wherever you are in life… 20s, 30s, and 40s.

My top tips for twenty somethings are pretty simple – start using a moisturizer with good SPF and look at the lifestyle factors that could be ageing later on. In other words, get into the habit of eating well, drinking plenty of water and getting a good night’s sleep as often as possible, and get out of habits like smoking which can damage the skin long term.

This may be the perfect time to start on preventative and protective treatments with regular Medi-Facials. These treatmenst infuse the skin with wonderful vitamins and other skin benefiting goodies, which are delivered to the layer of your skin where cells grow. The facials not only give you a wonderful glow and fresh faced look, but they can also (if used regularly), help strengthen your skin and help protect it against free radical damage from your environment.

This is also the ideal time to re-evaluate your skincare regime. You might be surprised to discover that a lot of patients who visit end up with a far more streamlined regime than they had previously. There are many widely used products – toners, for example – that we simply don’t need. I know it goes against everything we read in magazines, but it’s a simple fact, we don’t need anything like as many products as we think. Remember, many magazines will be promoting products pushed upon them by beauty industry PRs – many of whom will be representing the brands who advertise in the magazine.

Another thing to bear in mind is that the advice given in magazines is generic – and you’re not. What works for one person may give no benefit to another, because everyone’s different. Think about it this way, just because your friend looks amazing in a certain dress, it doesn’t follow that you will too (and vice versa).

A skincare regime (and, if required, treatment plan) that’s tailored to your needs really is one of the best, and simplest, things you can do for your skin in your twenties.

Typically this is when many of us start to see those first signs of ageing. Our skin may start to lose elasticity and we may start to notice changes to its pigmentation. It’s also the age when many of us will have young children, so are more likely to miss out on a good night’s sleep.

Thankfully, skincare and simple lifestyle-friendly treatments can help. Mesotherapy is a great treatment for many people looking to recapture that healthy glow and look less tired which is available in our Medi-Facials.

Radiofrequency treatments may also be something to consider at this stage as it can help keep signs of ageing at bay by increasing collagen production and tightening skin. This gentle treatment is very relaxing – making it ideal for those with a busy lifestyle who don’t always get any time to themselves.

Forties (and beyond)

This is the age when women are most likely to really start to notice changes, thanks to a drop in their progesterone levels. Typically, skin will become looser and sagging around the eyes and jowls will start to occur. Fine lines may deepen or become more noticeable, and skin may start to look dull.

In addition to the treatments mentioned previously – and a suitable skincare regime – many people in their forties start to consider anti-wrinkle wrinkle injections or dermal fillers. These are the most effective way to treat lines than no longer respond to creams and other treatments.

Some people prefer to explore other options, and we’re noticing that Platelet Rich Plasma (also known as vampire facials) are becoming increasingly popular. Whilst they can help deliver a healthy glow at any age, they can also help tackle age related issues such as fine lines and dark circles.

It’s around this age when many people start to notice their skin tone becomes uneven and mottled – both of which can easily be addressed with skin peels and skincare.

Some people also experience ‘turkey neck’ as they get older. Drooping of this type around the jowls and eyes can be solved without resorting to surgery, thanks to our latest treatment, Ultherapy. This innovative ultrasound based treatment lifts and tones, and can help give back the youthful look that gravity and time have taken.

Whatever your age it’s never too early – or too late – to take care of your skin, and whether you’re twenty-one or eighty-one, a good skincare regime is vital.
