Acne Treatments

Adult acne can be a distressing problem that dents your confidence and is hard to hide. As it can go on for a long time - it can feel as if there’s no end in sight. However, with the right treatment plan it can be manageable, giving you the clear, smooth skin you’ve waited so long to rediscover.

What is adult acne?

Adult acne differs markedly from the spots of your teenage years, both in how it appears and how it’s treated. Teenage skin tends to be stickier and so more prone to getting clogged pores than adults which usually results in tiny bumps, blackheads or whiteheads on the skin of the face, especially the forehead, along with occasional cysts on the chest and back.
Adult acne is more likely to appear on the lower part of the face, especially around the mouth and jawline with deeper nodules or red papules that can lead to increased scarring.

How we can help treat acne

If you’re troubled with the occasional breakout then we can support you with a professional skin analysis and skin care containing salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide, which are good for clearing whiteheads and pustules, and an oral supplement called Accumax which when used with our recommended healthy eating plan can achieve amazing results. We would also recommend that smokers should stop - as studies have linked smoking to an increase in the likelihood of suffering with adult acne.
If you have severe sustained acne you should always consult your GP first. However, many patients are often prescribed Roacutane, which has side affects that can negatively impact on your life. We can help to manage your acne with skin care, supplements and professional treatments such as chemical peels and Dermalux Phototherapy. Adult acne tends to affect woman more than men and is often related to hormonal changes, so by managing it you can avoid having to use aggressive drugs such as Roacutane.

Acne Scarring

The most important aspect of managing acne is to reduce the formation of acne scars. Acne can be a distressing problem, but even after the spots themselves have gone, some people find that their skin is still not quite as blemish free as they might wish. Acne scars can be hard to hide under make-up and it can be upsetting to be left with a reminder of past problems - which is why we also provide treatments for acne scar removal.
